10 ways to start working on your health

This post will provide you with 10 simple tips on how to live a more balanced, healthy and happy life, starting today!

Restrictive diets and quick fix short term plans are not sustainable. We want lifestyle changes that will stick for life and make us feel our best! 

Here are 10 tips to get you started.

1.Cook wholesome simple meals

Making simple and healthy meals for yourself at home. Enjoy the process of cooking something that will nourish you and makes you feel good. Healthy cooking doesn’t have to be complicated and time consuming. You will find lots of simple, healthy recipes here on the blog and on the Balanced Base Instagram page!

2.Drink more water

You’ve probably heard this one a thousand times, but drinking water is so important. It keeps you hydrated and will also help you snack less during the day. Always keep a water bottle on your desk or in your bag if you are on the go.

3.Make healthy food swaps

Instead of eliminating all kinds of foods and food groups, start by making food swaps. This will make your new eating habits a lot more sustainable. For instance if you are always eating white bread, switch to sourdough or spelt bread. Adding extra veggies to your meal instead of leaving things out.

4.Get a good night’s sleep

Sleep is key for improving your health, your body is restoring itself during this time. So getting enough and good quality sleep is super important. Limit screentime before bed, take a nice hot shower or bath, do you skincare routine or read a book. 

5.Exercise that makes you feel good

Exercising should be something that is fun and makes your feel good. What type of exercise this is will be different for everybody. Find what works for you and your body.

6.Stress less

The connection between mind and body is often underestimated, but stress is bad for you for so many reasons. Long term stress can weaken the immune system, cause high blood pressure, depression, anxiety and heart disease. Managing stress is key to living a balanced, healthy life.

7.Take some time for yourself

When you take some time for yourself every day, you actually have more energy and love to give to others. Taking as little as 10 minutes out of your day and dedicating them to yourself will have an enormous positive effect on the way you feel. Find something that works for you. Some examples can be meditation, a short yoga flow, a couple of stretches, reading, listening to a podcast or taking a short walk.

8.Create a morning routine

A good morning routine will set you up for a successful day! Take a bit of extra time for some stretches, journaling, meditation or just having your breakfast in peace. This will leave you feeling accomplished and sets the tone for the rest of the day.

9.Practise gratitude

Write down 3 things you are grateful for every morning or evening. The benefits of practicing gratitude are endless! By taking time to reflect upon the things you are thankful for you can experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness. It often feels like time is flying by and practicing gratitude can help you live more in the moment.

10.Be kind to yourself and your body

Probably the most important of all. Be kind to yourself and your body and thankful for all the amazing things it does for you on a daily basis. You are only given one body, so you might as well take really good care of it!
